Gazprom, Eni Agree to Revise Terms of Gas-Supply Deal

Gazprom and Eni SpA agreed Friday to revise the terms of the agreement by which the Russian behemoth supplies gas to Italy's largest energy company by market value.
The agreement, signed in Russia, reduces the price Eni pays by changing the price indexation to bring it in line with market prices, Eni said in a news release. The terms apply retroactively to the beginning of this year.
Eni is in the process of renegotiation all its long-term gas supply contracts and this year reached an agreement with Norway's Statoil ASA.
A surge in North America's gas supply as well as lower demand in Europe from weaker economies has reduced the price on the spot market, but Eni and other companies have had to buy gas from their suppliers at higher prices under long-term contracts.
